In this video, I want to talk about a copy conundrum that a lot of sole operators face. When you’re talking about your own business, should you use the pronouns “I”, “me”, and “my”, or should you try and sound larger, using “we”, “us”, and “our”?

It’s a tough question, and unfortunately one that doesn’t have a straight answer. Personally I err on the side of “I, me, my” in my own copy because Obsidian is just me and clients may as well know that. Remember that clients don’t always see you being a “lone wolf” as a disadvantage. People are looking to work with you personally, so why shouldn’t you be the face of your brand? Being small also often means being nimble and agile too.

Using the word “we” may make you seem like less of a risk, but the client may feel duped once they find out you’re on your own. But that’s just my opinion – what do you think?
